    Week of March 5, 2008

    A Casey County teenager who was in a vehicle struck by a county road department truck in December 2006 has filed suit, against the county and the driver of the truck.

    Kayla Usi, who was 17 and a student at Casey County High School when the wreck occurred on Dec. 20, 2006, filed the civil action Feb. 27 in Casey Circuit Court through her attorney Jonathan R. Spalding of Lebanon.

    Michael Jay Wethington pleaded not guilty to a charge of menacing. He has court March 6.

    Bonnie J Root pleaded not guilty to assault fourth degree, minor injury. She has court March 6.

    Bryan Estill McClain pleaded not guilty to public intoxication by controlled substance, and cultivating less than five marijuana plants. He has court March 1.

    Feb. 20

    Jamie Floyd Harris’ charge of carrying a concealed deadly weapon was dismissed and his gun was ordered to be returned to him.

    Feb. 12

    Justin Lee Adams pleaded guilty to bail jumping in the first degree, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, driving on a suspended license, DUI, possession of a controlled substance first degree, first offense (methamphetamine), and drug paraphernalia. He will be sentenced March 26 at 1 p.m.

    Sarah Nicely pleaded guilty to and amended charge of receiving stolen property worth less than $10,000. She will be sentenced March 12.

    Gene Lee Sweet and Tammy Gail Sweet of Bethelridge to Carroll Ray Haste of Bethelridge. A parcel of land boarding both sides of Rock Lick Road and lying on the headwaters of Rock Lick Creek for $13,763.58.

    Jeff Mason of Liberty to Malcolm W. Douglas of Liberty. A certain parcel of land lying at the north intersection of Gritton Avenue and Hustonville Street in the City of Liberty, Casey County Kentucky for $28,000.

    Feb. 19

    George S Webb, III, 30, of Hustonville, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000. He had possession of a stolen four-wheeler. He pleaded not guilty Feb. 22 and was bound over to the Casey County Grand Jury.

    Week of Feb. 27 2008

    The 13 people named as defendants in a lawsuit filed nearly two years ago by five Casey County High School students have been granted separate trials. Circuit Judge James G. Weddle granted the motion for separate trials on Feb. 1, which was filed by William A. Hoback, a Louisville attorney representing 11 of the defendants.

    Daniel Wade Cornett pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of controlled substance, first degree, first offense (methamphetamine) from Feb. 13, 2017, as well as a charge of trafficking in a controlled substance first degree, first offense, less than two grams (meth). He was sentenced to four years total to be served consecutive to a sentence he is already serving.

    Cassandra Lou Ann Wheeler pleaded not guilty to trafficking in marijuana less than 8 ounces and permitting an unlicensed driver to operate a vehicle. She has court March 1.

    Jacob Bernard pleaded not guilty to speeding 9 mph over the limit, operating on a suspended/revoked license, rear license plate not illuminated, drug paraphernalia, and trafficking in marijuana less than less than 8 ounces. He has court March 1.

    Roy Hinsch pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct second degree. He was sentenced to pay $240.50 within six months.

    Michael Jay Wethington, 25, of Liberty, was charged with menacing. According to his citation, he put a victim in a reasonable apprehension of imminent physical injury on Feb. 10 by threatening to “whip” him and engaging in a fight with the victim. This was the second time in three months. He pleaded not guilty and has a court date March 3.
