  • Patty L. Martin, 61

    Patty Lou Martin of Shugars Hill Road, Liberty, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was 61.

    Born on Dec. 20, 1946 in Casey County, she was a daughter of Inas Marie Luttrell of Liberty and the late Raymond Luttrell.

    She was retired from Liberty Sportswear.

    Besides her mother, survivors include her husband, Melvin Martin of Liberty; two sons, Chris and Emery Martin, both of Liberty; a grandchild, Brittany Martin; and a brother, Tommy Luttrell.

    She was preceded in death by a sister, KathleenWilham.

  • Scammer sentenced

    An Ohio couple who pleaded guilty to exploiting a local woman has been sentenced in Casey Circuit Court.

    Carl L. Holland, 64, and Sharon K. Holland, 62, both of Eaton, Ohio, were given five years and two and one-half years, respectively, for exploiting Mary Brown over a period of seven years, taking more than $95,000.

    Carl Holland pleaded guilty to knowingly exploiting an adult, while Sharon Holland entered a plea to reckless exploitation of an adult. Charges of theft by deception were dismissed.

  • Christmas kick-off Nov. 28

    It will be all aboard for fun as Liberty’s Downtown Christmas Celebration, “All Aboard for Christmas!”gets under way on Nov. 28.

    With a lighted parade, music, caroling, arts and crafts booths, an auction, free food and drinks, and a visit from Santa Claus, of course, those attending are bound to get in the holiday spirit.

    “It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Blaine Staat, coordinator of the Liberty/Casey County Chamber of Commerce, who is helping to organize the event.

  • Three arrested in Casey County stabbing

    A fight early Friday morning resulted in a Casey County man being stabbed and a Russell Springs man charged in the incident.

    According to Deputy Chad Weddle, Steven Williams, 29, of 62 Jimmy Ave., Russell Springs, was charged with first-degree assault and alcohol intoxication in a public place in the stabbing of Mathew Martin, 21, of Ronald Evans Road in Liberty.

    The incident happened Friday between 2 and 2:30 a.m. at 477 Moxley Road in Liberty.

    Weddle said that Martin walked half a mile to a residence to report the incident.

  • Clyde Brown, 80

    Clyde Brown of Hwy. 910, Liberty, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was 80.

    Born on June 29, 1928 in Casey County, he was a son of the late Gillen and Nancy Jane Byrd Brown.

    He was a retired custodian at the Casey County KY Tech and a deacon at Walnut Hill Baptist Church.

  • Bridge could connect Liberty, Ag Center by spring

    With a major sewer expansion project nearly behind them, and a major water plant expansion project just beginning, the Liberty City Council is looking farther into the future, hoping to make progress on another project in the works.

    At its Nov. 12 meeting, Mayor Steve Sweeney told the council that two bridges needed to connect the downtown Liberty area with the Central Kentucky AG/EXPO Center should be in place by March.

    “We’ll be applying for the pedestrian walkway money after Dec. 1,” Sweeney said.

  • Edwenia L. Bowdoin, 64

    Edwenia Langford Bowdoin of Liberty died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at St. Jospeh Hospital. She was 64.

    Born on Dec. 5, 1943 in Casey County, she was a daughter of A.C. and Evelyn Langford of Liberty.

    She was a former employee of Palm Beach and attended Carr’s Chapel First Church of God.

  • Edwenia L. Bowdoin, 64

    Edwenia Langford Bowdoin of Liberty died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at St. Jospeh Hospital. She was 64.

    Born on Dec. 5, 1943 in Casey County, she was a daughter of A.C. and Evelyn Langford of Liberty.

    She was a former employee of Palm Beach and attended Carr’s Chapel First Church of God.

  • Jewell M. Smith, 67

    Jewell Mae Emerson Smith of Taylor Street, Liberty, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center. She was 67.

    Born on Sept. 28, 1941 in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Sherman and Carrie Sandusky Emerson.

    She was a retired custodian for Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio and attended the Rheber Church of the Nazarene.

    Survivors include two brothers, Gene Emerson of Liberty and Rex Emerson of Ohio; three sisters, Vatis Gibson of Hustonville, Lois Wells of Liberty and Sue Cross of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

  • Carson Grant, 83

    Carson Grant died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 at Medco in Bowling Green. He was 83.
