Bruce’s Chapel

Attendance at Bruce’s Chapel UMC was 54 for this morning’s worship service. Chris Hatter brought the children’s message. Pastor Creech Richardson’s message was from Matt 16, and John 15. “Who do thou say I am?” Jesus had a purpose to be savior of the world and he lives in our hearts. Rammie Meeks celebrates a birthday this week. Church took part in communion this morning. There was No evening service

Brush Creek

Attendance Sunday Morning was 76. Bro Scott Cochran brought the message from Luke 2:1-20. Children’s church has 10. Pledges to the U.S. Flag, Christian Flag, and Bible were recited by all. Special prayer request were: Diana Taylor, Gary Taylor, Linda Bryant, Jake Atwood, Billy Grant Family, Ben & Mallory’s 2 children, Jackie Rodgers, Austin Young, Marie Fletcher, Hugh Fletcher, Sis Kathryn Scott, J. R. Haggard, Jackie Eversole, Cecil Wethington’s dad, Doris Brown, Coffman Family, Elsie Shoopman, Harlan Shoopman, Joe & Ada Taylor, Bob Cook, Cathrine Smith, Glenda Beal, Dewayne Cochran, everyone who will be traveling over this Christmas holiday. Especially remember the people who do not have loved ones to spend Christmas with. Remember the elderly and the sick.

Ellisburg

Attendance Dec. 23 at Ellisburg Baptist Church was 41 for Sunday school and 55 for morning worship. Sharon Stevens and Phillip Crowe had the special music. Then the Ellisburg Trio sang, “Without him.” Bro. Bud’s message was, “in a manger,” and was taken from Luke 2:8-20. We canceled our evening service so everyone could stay home with their guests. We had 25 at our prayer meeting Wednesday night. We have canceled the Wednesday night service this week.

New on our prayer list: Jack Weddle, Danny Helm, Cathy Mitchum, Rosemary Baker, Robin Lear, Gail Turpin, Chelse Barker and the family of Emma Jean Randolph.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Attendance was 81. Larry Crenshaw conducted the sacrament service. The invocation was giving by David Allen. Administering the sacrament were Lucas Foley, Kevin Foley, Nathan Howard, Bryce Howard, and Cameron Hill. Speakers included Carl Howard, “The Story of Silent Night,” Jerry Long, “The Story of I Heard the Bells,” and Larry Crenshaw spoke on “The Story of Joy to the World.”

Middleburg

On Sunday morning, the choir provided special music. Bro. Keith read Hebrews 10:5-8 as he talked about what Jesus was thinking that first Christmas Eve. On Sunday evening, the children presented their Christmas program. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Mt. Calvary

We had two Christmas worship services on Sunday with a total attendance of 125 and 65 for Sunday school. Bro. Ronnie’s message, “No Room”, was taken from Luke 2:1-7, Micah 5:2, Matt 1:18-19, 19:26. Children’s service was by Becky Durham and Jessica Hogue, with special singing by Ramona Eldridge and the men’s group. Celebrating birthdays were Alyssa Jones and Lacey Luttrell, anniversary Robert and Becky Powell. No evening service. Wed., Dec. 26, Bible study and youth group. Sun., Dec. 30, evening service cancelled to attend the county wide hymn singing at Locust Grove at 6 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant

The devotional was taken from Isaiah and read by Randal Davis. Shirley Helm was the oldest person present and the youngest Mia Coppage. Makayla Frye celebrated a birthday this week. Mark and Cheryl Hayes and Kevin and Jessica Bryant celebrated their anniversaries. Special music was provided by Randal Davis and Shirley Land, Gary Bell, Karey Sellers, Bro. Cameron Cain. We had a special treat from Dale Sellers playing his banjo. Bro. Cameron’s message “The Birth of Jesus and His Gifts to Us” came from Luke 2: 1-20.

Prayer requests were Howard and Geneva Bell, Mae Bell, Larry Rowell, Felicia Willis, Connie Buis, Karen Kinnard, Paula Clements, Clint Bowling and sympathy for the families of Mabel Vaught and Valerie Cox.

Poplar Grove

Bro. Brent’s message was taken from Micah 5:2 and was titled, “ruler.” Birthdays for the upcoming week: Alta Whited, Jeannie Murphy and Kodey Popplewell.

Sunday we celebrated the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph and our scriptures were: Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14; Psalm 128; Samuel 1:20-22, 24-28; and Luke 2:41-52. New Year’s Eve Vigil Mass scriptures were: Numbers 6:22-27; Psalm 67; Galatians 4:4-7; and Luke 2:16-21. Tuesday, January 1, the Church celebrates The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. Next Sunday, January 6, is the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord and our scriptures will be Isaiah 60:1-6; Psalm 72; Ephesians 3:2-3a,5-6; and Matthew 2:1-12. Epiphany originally celebrated four different events: The Baptism of the Lord; Christ’s first miracle, the changing of water into wine at the wedding in Cana; the Nativity of Christ; and the visitation of the Wise Men or Magi. Each of these is a revelation of God to Man.
