Ceremonial signing of HB 151 held at CCHS

By Donna Carman

Danny and Debbie Buis sat on the front row of chairs facing the stage in the Casey High gymnasium Monday morning, watching their daughter, Danielle, make history.
The parents of the 18-year-old senior saw her develop malignant melanoma last year, nursed her through surgery and recovery, and proudly watched her take a stand to speak out against the use of tanning beds among minors.

By Linda Carmicle

A first-ever candidate's forum was held Friday evening at the Casey County High School cafeteria, which featured more than half of the 68 registered candidates in the May 16 primary election.
The event was hosted by The Casey County News and the Liberty/Casey County Chamber of Commerce with Jamie Baker-Nantz, editor of The Grant County News, serving as moderator.

Primary Election is Tuesday

Voters will select party nominees,

office-holders from among 68 candidates

By Donna Carman
Editor

Voters will go to the polls next Tuesday as the primary election will decide who receives the Republican and Democratic nominations up for grabs. However, in heavily Republican Casey County, some races will be decided in the primary as there is no opposition in the general election.
Next Tuesday's primary will also decide which two of the three candidates in the 29th Judicial Circuit District Judge's race will be advancing to November as well.
In that race, Raymond Overstreet of Casey County, and Judy Vance and Michael Loy, both of Adair County, are vying to be the top two vote-getters in the primary. (See stories, front page.) The two will advance to November, where the winner there will succeed District Judge Roger Elliott, who is retiring.
