Cause of blaze unknown

A local building, used to house auctions and for storage, was completely lost on Monday afternoon after fire left it and its contents destroyed.
The building, located on Ky. 70 East near Green River, is owned by James A. Hines of Cincinnati, Ohio. However, Vernon Grider Jr. of Liberty used it for storage and often held auctions inside. Grider said the last auction was held there a couple months ago.

Delinquent tax bills may cost property owners double

Things may be getting more expensive for those who owe delinquent property taxes.
At Monday's Casey County Fiscal Court meeting, magistrates learned private individuals and companies have bought the county's delinquent taxes. Southern Tax Services out of Nicholasville, along with some private individuals, purchased these delinquent taxes on April 12.
ECCWD increases monthly water
buy from 10 to 16 million gallons

East Casey County Water District has agreed to buy more water from the City of Liberty as a part of the city’s efforts to upgrade its water treatment plant.
At a special-called meeting on Wednesday, Ricky Carman, chairman of the ECCWD board, and Liberty Mayor Steve Sweeney signed an amendment to a water contract between the two entities that now calls for the water district to purchase a minimum average of 16 million gallons of water each month from the city.
Grand jury indicts five

Two men have been indicted on charges of receiving stolen property resulting from an incident that occurred in April.
Steven R. Cain, 51, and Travis E. Jones, 34, addresses not listed, were among five people named in 14 indictments handed down Friday by a Casey County grand jury.
Hospital employees to get 6 percent raise

The Casey County Hospital District approved a proposed raise in pay for all local hospital employees, which will take effect sometime in July.
The 6 percent raise, proposed by Administrator Rusty Tungate, was approved at the June 10 board meeting.
Also at the meeting, the district approved the operating budget for fiscal year 2008-09, which tops $12 million.
