Bees swarm downtown Liberty
Between 25,000 to 30,000 honeybees collected

A cloud of honeybees caused quite a stir in downtown Liberty Thursday afternoon as thousands of the insects buzzed around the stoplight on Courthouse Square before moving on to the lawn in front of the courthouse.
The bees swarmed the Doughboy Statue, circled around parked cars, and finally congregated on a bush located in a flower bed on the square.

Man charged with impersonating U.S. Marshal
Horton wanted on two bench warrants in Casey District Court

A former Casey County man, arrested locally last summer for not maintaining adequate conditions for numerous animals inside his Liberty pet store, is once again in police custody.
Jonathan Horton, 33, was arrested and charged on Saturday with impersonating a U.S. Marshal in Arkansas, according to the Associated Press. He was being held in Little Rock, Ark. without bond.
County budget set at $6.7M

Casey County’s proposed budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year is up slightly over the current budget, but Judge-Executive Ronald Wright said that can change.
“This is just a proposed budget,” Wright told magistrates at Monday’s fiscal court meeting before they gave first reading to the ordinance adopting the new budget. “It’s just projected. If we don’t get (the funding), we can’t spend it.”
CCHS graduation is June 2
On Monday, June 2, 152 graduates will receive their diplomas and turn their tassels at Casey County High School's commencement exercises, according to CCHS Principal Barry Lee.
The graduation date, officially set on Thursday, was announced after the Casey County school district heard final word from state officials about how many missed days students would be required to make up.
The graduation ceremony will be held on June 2 at 7 p.m. in the CCHS gymnasium.
Peek to intern at paper this summer
Casey County native Kendra Peek will begin a 10-week journalism internship with The Casey County News on Monday.
Peek, 19, is a junior at the University of the Cumberlands, where she is majoring in communication arts with a minor in journalism. She is a staff writer with the college newspaper, The Patriot, and was the the recent recipient of the staff's “most improved journalist” award.
