Higdon wins Casey in race for state rep's seat

Tuesday's primary election proved to be a good one for Jimmy Higdon, who was attempting to continue his run for the office of State Representative of the 24th District.
Higdon easily carried the race with 81.5 of the percent in Casey, Pulaski and Marion counties. In Casey County, Higdon's opponent, Anthony Stargle received 18.8 percent of the vote. The results were similar among the three locations.

Water rates going up for city customers

Liberty water customers will soon be paying more as a 16 percent increase in water rates is on the table for the City of Liberty.
Liberty City Council gave first reading May 14 to an ordinance that would raise the cost of treated water for its customers. The increase is to help finance the cost of bonds for the city's water plant expansion project, according to Mayor Steve Sweeney.

Lexington firm liable for Jones Park brick

A Lexington company which sold brick to the Casey County school district for a construction project will have to pay for their replacement.
Following a six-day trial in Casey Circuit Court, the jury deliberated about four hours on the night of May 13, coming in with their verdict around 11:30 p.m.

Former constable faces additional drug indictments

A former Casey County constable indicted in January as part of the drug round-up “Operation Joint Effort,” was charged Friday in another indictment issued by a Casey County grand jury.
Timothy J. Coffman, 51, of 718 Neff Road, Liberty, was indicted on one count of trafficking in a controlled substance, second degree.

Four hurt in two-vehicle crash on U.S. 127 South

A two vehicle accident sent four people to Casey County Hospital on May 14, three of whom were transported by Casey County EMS.
According to Liberty Police Officer Ronnie Smith, the accident occurred on U.S. 127 South in front of Southern States after a southbound 1987 Oldsmobile, driven by Dora L. Sparks, stopped in traffic, attempting to make a left turn from Wallace Wilkinson Boulevard.
