Multi-state marijuana ring

Two Casey County men are among 14 people from five states who have been named in a federal indictment charging them with being a part of a multi-state marijuana distribution ring.
Robert “Fritz” Sheene, 46, of 1517 Casey Creek Road, Liberty, and Ralph Michael Hughes, 37, of 1343 Bastin Creek Road, Kings Mountain, are among the 14 who have been charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana.


King family loses home in fiery blaze

A cause has not been determined for a fire that nearly destroyed a home on Ky. 49 on Monday afternoon.
At 12:22 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the home of Bearl and Wanda King at 3400 Ky. 49, where flames already had engulfed the entire second floor, according to Lt. Nick Scott of the Brush Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

Yosemite man dies in Taylor County crash

Two people are dead, including a Casey County man, following a two-vehicle crash on Ky. 210 in Taylor County, which occurred about 2:30 p.m. on April 16.
According to a Taylor County Sheriff's Department report, Eddie A. Propes, 54, of Yosemite was driving a 1998 Isuzu cab and box truck east on Ky. 210 when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 1994 Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by Timothy L. Alley, 41, of Columbia. Propes' truck caught fire after the collision.


Six are indicted for 2005 robberies

Six people have been indicted for their roles in a string of burglaries that occurred nearly three years ago.
The six were indicted Friday by a Casey County grand jury, and were named in 152 individual indictments.
Police got a break in the case late last fall with the arrest of two people, who were among the six indicted last week on separate charges.


Man charged with growing 196 pot plants


A Liberty man has been arrested and indicted on charges of marijuana cultivation after he was allegedly caught with 196 marijuana plants.
Shearle W. Woodrum, 62, of 338 Trammell Street, was arrested at 4:35 p.m. April 15 on Linnie Rheber Road by members of the Kentucky State Police Drug Task Force and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Drug Task Force.
