Ky. 70 West closed after landslide

Officials not sure on length of time for cleanup

Motorists who regularly travel Ky. 70 west of Liberty are having to find an alternate way into town as a portion of the road has been blocked since Sunday.
At presstime yesterday, Ky. 70 West remained closed from the western edge of the Liberty city limits to its junction with Lower Brush Creek Road, a distance of about two and one-half miles.

Teen files civil suit against county

A Casey County teenager who was in a vehicle struck by a county road department truck in December 2006 has filed suit against the county and the driver of the truck.
Kayla Buis, who was 17 and a student at Casey County High School when the wreck occurred on Dec. 20, 2006, filed the civil action Feb. 27 in Casey Circuit Court through her attorney, Jonathan R. Spalding of Lebanon.

Fraudulent 'IRS' e-mailing circulating

When Ann Ellis of Liberty checked her e-mail on Thursday, she knew something wasn't quite right.
Ellis, a facilitator for AARP's Tax-Aide, received an e-mail from someone claiming to be the Internal Revenue Service with some suspicious news.
The e-mail, complete with the IRS' e-file logo and 2008 copyright, stated that after the last annual calculations of her fiscal activity, they had determined Ellis was eligible to receive an $873.20 tax refund.


'Indoor arcade' proposed for ag/expo center

In the interest of promoting youth activities, one local man believes he has an idea that the Casey County Fiscal Court should consider.
Walter Murphy, who rescues and rehabilitates horses at his 3R Ranch, told magistrates he had read of the county’s interest in building a new park for the community. Murphy said he, too, had a suggestion to provide activities for the youth, but one that would also teach them something.
