Bullying bill on way to becoming law

The Senate passed a bill on Thursday that, if it becomes law, will require school districts in Kentucky to create a policy on how to deal with bullies.
Called “The Golden Rule Act,” House Bill 91 was first introduced in the House of Representatives in January. It passed the House unanimously on Jan. 29, moving on to the Senate, where it was approved last week with amendments and returned to the House.

More Charges

Six addistional counts filed against man who damaged yards

A Casey County man now faces 15 counts of criminal mischief after six additional charges were placed against him last week.
Steven D. Durham, 29, of 1125 George Branch Road, Hustonville, was originally charged on March 10 with three counts of first-degree criminal mischief and six counts of second-degree criminal mischief after he allegedly ran his vehicle through yards and fields in both the city and county during the early-morning hours that day.


Spring Break stands at five days

June 5 tentative date for CCHS graduation

Despite missing eight full days and three half-days of school this year for various reasons, students and teachers in the Casey County school district will enjoy a full, five-day spring break vacation, school officials say.
On March 10, the Casey County Board of Education voted to leave spring break “as is,” since many students, employees and their families have plans for the time off, causing potentially low attendance on those days if school were in session.


Bridges to be replaced on four county roads

Four bridges are slated to be replaced on county roads after their load limits were reduced by the state Department of Transportation.
Judge-Executive Ronald Wright told magistrates at Monday’s Casey County Fiscal Court meeting that when state officials recently inspected the bridges, they found them insufficient and their weight load limits were reduced.
