County blanketed with snow, sleet and freezing rain

Many Casey Countians spent Friday afternoon scurrying around town, preparing for the winter storm that was forecast to hit the area with snow and sleet. It caused local schools to send students home at 11 a.m., many to make one last visit to the grocery store for a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk, and placed the road departments on preparatory mode.

Man damages at least 9 yards in random spree

A man who admitted he had too much to drink found himself in trouble on Monday after he was arrested for allegedly damaging at least nine yards in both the city and county.
Steven Durham, 29, of 1125 George Branch Road, Hustonville, was scheduled to be in Casey District Court yesterday morning, where he faced three counts of first-degree criminal mischief and six counts of second-degree criminal mischief.
Five named in drug round-up indicted again

Five people arrested as a part of the January “Operation Joint Effort” drug round-up have been indicted on additional drug charges.
Angela Nicole Redford, Mark Steven Grider, Bo Jordan East, Paulette Susan Pittman, and Sherri P. Luttrell were each indicted Friday by a Casey County grand jury on drug trafficking charges.
Sharing the pain
Since the Liberty Police Department and the Casey County Sheriff's Department began carrying Taser guns in 2004, they must either be certified or keep up their current certification. Part of that involves being tazed themselves. The most recent Taser certification was held on Monday, with LPD Officers Randy Dial and Aaron Rainwater getting jolted, along with Doug Tarter, a special deputy in the Casey County Sheriff's Department, and Adam Rainwater, Aaron Rainwater's brother, who is the chief of police in Bradfordsville.
