High winds cause damage, power outage
By Donna Carman
Editor
High winds blew down a tree on Wolford Avenue in Liberty Tuesday night, causing it take down electrical lines and spark a fire. A transformer also blew, knocking out power to several residents.
While some people in the area reported a small amount of damage, things definitely could have been worse, said Liberty Fire Chief Donald Wilson.
Strong winds blew through Liberty around 11:15 p.m., causing a large tree at the corner of Harold and Joann Atwood's home to fall across their yard and into the street, taking the power lines with it.

Log truck spills load
A Casey County man was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington following a Monday afternoon accident in which he overturned his fully-loaded log truck. According to Deputy Freeman Luttrell, Robert Long, 66, of 1859 Ky. 1547, was eastbound on Ky. 70 West at 3:51 p.m. when he dropped off the shoulder of the road, overcorrected, and then lost control of the 1987 International semi loaded with logs. The vehicle turned over on its right side and slid for several feet before coming to rest in the yard of Danny and Debbie Buis’ home next to the former Phillips Elementary School. Luttrell said the scattered logs damaged a nearby electrical pole, which Taylor County RECC planned to replace yesterday. The road was closed for about two hours as wreckers righted the truck. Long suffered a broken nose, fractured ribs and other injuries, Luttrell said. He was taken to Casey Hospital by Casey EMS and later transported to the Lexington hospital. A spokesperson at UK said he was discharged Tuesday morning.
