The moon was still high in the pre-dawn sky Wednesday morning when some people were awakened from sleep, put in the back seat of a police cruiser, and taken to the Casey County Courthouse.
About 25 law enforcement officials fanned out across the county, searching for 48 people wanted on drug charges that had been named in sealed indictments handed down by a Casey County grand jury last month.

A former Casey County constable is among the 43 people who have been arrested as part of “Operation Joint Effort.”
Timothy J. Coffman, 51, of 718 Neff Road, Liberty, was arrested Wednesday morning at his home, accused of allegedly trafficking in a controlled substance.

Coffman served two terms as constable of District 2. He was elected in the fall of 1998 and served through 2006. He did not seek another term in the 2006 elections, citing ill health.

Stargle files for state rep

Casey man will opose incumbent for Republican nomination

By Brittany Emerson

A Liberty man has filed for the office of state representative of the 24th District.
Anthony Stargle, 33, of Liberty filed papers in the Secretary of State's office Jan. 22, he said. He is hoping to unseat State Rep. Jimmy Higdon of Lebanon for the Republican nomination to represent Casey, Marion and a portion of Pulaski County.
Stargle, a fulfillment center associate at Amazon.com in Campbellsville said he had contemplated filing for candidacy for a few months and wanted to “offer the people of District 24 a choice and the opportunities to have their voices heard.”
