The moon was still high in the pre-dawn sky Wednesday morning when some residents were awakened from sleep, put in the back seat of a police cruiser, and taken to the Casey County Courthouse.
Officers with the Casey County Sheriff's Department, the Liberty Police Department, Kentucky State Police Drug Task Force, HIDTA, KSP K-9 and troopers, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, and some Casey County constables fanned out across the county before daylight in their quest to round up 47 people named in sealed indictments charging them with more than 100 felony drug-related offenses.

New stretch of Ky. 70 West under way

Those who travel on Ky. 70 West can clearly see progress on a project to build a new road that is seven years in-the-making.
The project, now in the construction phase, is moving forward and on schedule, with crews in place clearing and grubbing, and beginning excavation and water line relocation in the area where the road will be placed, state transportation cabinet officials say.
Proposal made for new county park

After about a year of serious consideration, Casey County Judge-Executive Ronald Wright told magistrates at Monday’s fiscal court meeting that he believes he and Jailer Tommy Miller have come up with a way to fund a new park for Casey County.
However, a new park is going to depend greatly upon affordable, available land, preferably not too far from Liberty.
Gateway Park may get new concession stand

A new concession stand could be built at Gateway Park if the Casey County Fiscal Court receives a state grant.
Judge-Executive Ronald Wright said at a public hearing on Friday that Casey has applied for a $78,663 grant through the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The grant, which is a 50-50 match, is earmarked for a new concession stand at the park, if approved.

While much of the national media is focusing on the candidates who are running for the office of president of the United States, residents in their own communities may overlook races closer to home.
Locally, 2008 is not a strong year for politics. With countywide elections not scheduled again until 2010, people may tend to bypass a trip to the voting booth, especially in the May primary. However, there will still be some races, in addition to the presidential primary, that voters need to be aware of.
