When Jessica Byrd took her 8-year-old son, Zachary, to the Casey County Hospital’s emergency room Dec. 17, she found herself plunged into a parent’s nightmare.
Zachary was running a high fever; he tested positive for strep throat; and Byrd was given a prescription to take to an outside pharmacy to fill as the hospital could not give him the medication because there was no pharmacist on duty.

Man found dead in parked car

A Liberty man was found dead in his car on Saturday morning near Liberty Manor Apartments, authorities say.
Jimmy Combest, 73, was found in a vehicle outside Liberty Manor Apartments and was pronounced dead at 11:34 a.m. by Coroner Tommy Clark, Deputy Coroner Betty Clark said.
Clark said Combest's vehicle had been in the parking lot, running, since approximately 10:30 or 11 p.m. the night before, according to eye witnesses. This prompted a resident to check on the situation and to call authorities when she found the man deceased.
Clark said Combest, formerly of Florida, died of natural causes.
A memorial service is planned. Bartle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
