Wreck claims life of student

A Casey County High School student was killed on his way to school Tuesday morning and his twin brother injured.
Josh Monroe, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-vehicle accident at 8:30 a.m., according to Deputy Coroner Betty Clark. Clark said Monroe died of blunt force trauma. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to Trooper Mike Woodrum, who investigated the 8 a.m. accident.


Threatening letter found at CCHS

A threatening letter found in a boys' bathroom at Casey County High School last Wednesday prompted officials to go into lockdown. However, after about 40 minutes, the all clear was given and students and staff resumed their day.
"No one felt there was anything that warranted any further action," Superintendent Linda Hatter said.


Drought hurting area cattle farmers

The spring freeze and summer drought already have wreaked havoc on water supplies and vegetation statewide.
But the extreme weather situation now has farmers searching for alternative feeding methods and planning for what they fear will be a long, hard winter.
Jimmy Carman, who farms on Ky. 837, says he's just one of many farmers who is short on hay already, having to dip into his supply this summer to feed his herd.


Case against extension district board

goes to Kentucky Court of Appeals

A civil suit involving the Casey County Extension District Board and its former 4-H agent is headed to the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
Jan Atwood, who served as the local Extension Agent for 4-H from November 2000 to July 2005, filed the notice of appeal Aug. 29 in Casey Circuit Court through her attorney, Bryant Bennett of Campbellsville.


Ayoroa resigns as EDA director

After nearly two years of working to promote community advancement, tourism and industry in Liberty and Casey County, Josh Ayoroa, the executive director of the Economic Development Authority of Liberty-Casey County, has resigned.
Ayoroa's resignation will take effect Sept. 28, and he will join the Marion County Economic Development Office on Oct. 1, where he will be the assistant director, working mostly in retail and residential development as well as existing business retention and expansion.
