Temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s aren't cool by any stretch of the imagination. But compared to what area residents have experienced over the past two weeks, Monday's high of 94 degrees was almost balmy.
Liberty recorded a season-high of 103 degrees on Thursday, according to local weather observer Mike Brown. And in the county, weather watcher J.Q. Rodgers said his thermometer reached 104 degrees.

A Casey County school bus loaded with 25 students was involved in a collision Thursday morning in the eastern section of the county.
While no one suffered serious injuries, at least one parent wants to know why she wasn't notified of the accident.
Betty Prater, who had three children on the bus, said a school nurse at Casey High called her about two hours after the accident, asking if it was okay to give her daughter a Tylenol as she was complaining of a headache following the bus accident.

County's tax rate is unopposed

By Donna Carman

No one showed up at a public hearing Aug. 20 to express comments regarding the county's property tax rate for 2007.
Judge-Executive Ronald Wright said the county will retain the 6.9 cents per $100 assessment that it enacted last year. That rate brought in $260,095 in 2006 property taxes and is expected to generate $269,260 this year. The difference is revenue is due to increased property assessments as well as new growth.
