Smith remains in hospital following fatal accident

Husband continues to recover

A Lincoln County car accident that took the lives of three members of a Liberty family on Wednesday afternoon left two Middleburg residents seriously injured.
Fred E. Rodgers, 80, his wife, Lois, 80, and their son, Freddie, 58, all of Liberty, were pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:13 p.m. accident.

Wreck claims three family members

John Grider wonders today where he might have been if Fred and Lois Rodgers had never entered his life.
Grider met the Rodgerses about 15 years ago and lives in a house he rents from them. But, it's only been recently that the steady influence they had on him led Grider to give up bad habits and begin a new life.


Plaintiff must answer questions in bullying case

Depositions in the civil case involving five former Casey County High School students who filed suit against school officials last year came to standstill recently as attorneys sought a judge's ruling.
However, by the end of a hearing in Casey Circuit Court last week, Judge James G. Weddle had set a trial date for July 7, 2008 with a pre-trial conference set for Feb. 1.


$5M awarded in contracting bids for new hospital

More than $5 million in subcontracting bids were awarded at the Casey County Hospital board meeting Aug. 14, as the project that will bring a new hospital to the community moves forward.
Steve Wiser of JRA Architects, along with Kim Maikranz of Doster Construction, presented their recommendations for subcontractors in 14 categories.
"Pricewise, we're looking very good," Wiser said. "We've spent a whole week going through each contractor, making sure they had apples to apples in comparison."


Scam Alert

Phony bank officials seek information from customers

In light of recent telephone scams known in the area, officials are advising Casey Countians to be particularly careful with financial or personal information.
The most recently-suspected telephone incident has raised a red flag with local officials.
County Attorney Tom Weddle said a local resident informed him that she recently received telephone calls from someone claiming to be from the bank at which she is a customer.
