Bears spotted near Creston

'Blackberry pickers, beware'

As a state conservation officer with the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife, Roger Weddle has seen bears in the wild. However, he'd never seen one virtually in his own back yard - at least not until Wednesday night.
"It was about 8:30 and Myra (Wethington, a neighbor) called. She was real excited and said, 'We've got a bear over here! Get over here!'" Weddle recalled.
So Weddle and his wife, Judy, jumped in the pickup and headed over to the Wethingtons, less than a mile away, where they found "a crowd of people" on "bear watch."

Carman named to head boys' basketball program at CCHS

A former standout player for the Rebels will be returning to his alma mater to open a new chapter in Casey High basketball history.
Todd Car-man was selected by the Casey High site based decision making council Monday night to be the new head boys' basketball coach. Carman, who replaces Perry Walters, was one of three candidates selected to be interviewed by the council.


Girl hit by car while crossing Ky. 206

A teenage girl was seriously injured Friday afternoon when she was struck by a car as she attempted to cross the road.
Angela Purvis, 16, of 4976 Ky. 206, Dunnville, was flown to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville following the 4 p.m. accident, which occurred near her home.


New alternate discussed for Dry Ridge Hill

Route will only relocate two homes

After evaluating comments and reactions from property owners regarding three proposed corridor routes for Ky. 1649 that would eliminate the dangers of Dry Ridge Hill, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet introduced an alternate on June 26.
The newly proposed alternate for the Dry Ridge Road project generated lots of comments, most of which, Project Manager Greg Eastham said, were positive or compromising.


Skaggs named new director of Chamber

Office relocates to City Hall

The face of the Casey County Chamber of Commerce is changing, right down to a new location, a new director and a new partnership with the Economic Development Authority of Liberty-Casey County.
Anita Skaggs of Liberty has been hired as the new executive director for the Chamber of Commerce and will begin her new position on Monday.
