Check, phone scams surface

There's an old saying that warns people if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
At least two Casey County residents recognize that fact and they're hoping their recent experiences may help others to avoid being the victims of scams.
Yvette Cook has been targeted recently by two separate Canadian groups who have sent her checks and letters informing her she has won a lottery, while Ruby Leigh got a telephone call with Jamaican origins, claiming she, too, was the winner of a huge amount of money.

Man pleads guilty in Walnut Hill Elementary thefts

A Russell County man involved in thefts at the Walnut Hill Elementary building site has pleaded guilty in Casey Circuit Court.
Ranney Coleman Dykes, 23, of 148 Pyles Road, Jamestown, entered the guilty plea before Judge James G. Weddle on July 16. Dykes is charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, three counts of theft by unlawful taking over $300, and one count of criminal mischief.
