Man's body recovered from Lake Cumberland

The body of a former Casey County man was recovered in Lake Cumberland on Sunday after two weeks of searching, authorities say.
Mark Sayers, 37, of Russell Springs, formerly of Windsor, had been missing and presumed drowned since a boating collision on June 30, which occurred at about 10:15 p.m. CST, said Russell County Emergency Manager H.M. Bottom.

Site work to begin on new hospital

The area behind Casey County Hospital will take on a new look starting next week as site preparation is scheduled to begin for the new hospital.
"They are to begin July 23. You'll see a lot of activity out there," Steve Wiser of JRA Architects told hospital board members at their July 10 meeting.
Wiser said plans are progressing as scheduled for the new hospital as the state Department of Health has approved everything and the state building department had a few questions.


Wolford houses next to be moved

With one house relocated and another razed, Casey County Community Ministries is now making plans to move two more houses given to them by the Casey County Hospital District.
The hospital's board of directors made the decision in September 2005 to build a new hospital, which will sit directly behind the current hospital at the corner of Wolford and Sharp streets.


Failing grades equal loss of driver's license

Casey County students will have a new incentive to do their best in school.
If a new policy relating to a state law receives approval by the Casey County Board of Education, students ages 16 or 17 will have their driving permits or licenses revoked for not meeting certain academic or attendance requirements.
The school board gave first reading to the No Pass, No Drive initiative on July 9.


Man given 8 1/2 years for gate shop theft

A man found guilty on theft charges has been sentenced to eight and one-half years in prison.
John T. Garcia, 26, of 431 Button Knob Road, was formally sentenced July 9 in Casey Circuit Court by Judge James G. Weddle. He had been found guilty by a jury on June 8 of taking numerous rolls of copper wire and other items from Larry Scott and/or Scott Gate Co. in June 2006.
