Rates increase as new sewer project begins

Those who receive city sewer services soon will be paying more.
In order to begin construction on the long-awaited city sewer project on U.S. 127 and Ky. 70 East, Liberty City Council voted to raise sewer rates last week.
The council gave first reading to an ordinance amending the rates on July 4 and second reading on Friday. The raise in rates took place to provide revenue for bond payments on the project, said City Clerk Sharleen Rodgers.

Fifth suit filed over new Ky. 70 project

The state Transportation Cabinet Department of Highways has filed a fifth lawsuit seeking condemnation of property needed in the construction of a new section of Ky. 70 west of Liberty.
Keith A. Upchurch, counsel for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Somerset office, filed the action in Casey Circuit Court on June 13 against Christopher Samuel and Meranda Michelle Fair of 692 Lower Brush Creek Road, Liberty.

Couple indicted for endangering children

A Casey County couple accused of endangering their children was indicted Monday by a Casey County grand jury.
Slade Cole Smith, 26, and Amber M. Smith, 18, both of 1295 Maxey Valley Road, Hustonville, were each named in five indictments charging them with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a controlled substance first degree (cocaine), cultivation of marijuana less than five plants, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
