Woman indicted for assault

after car runs into store

Allen also charged with drug offenses

A Dunnville woman who drove her car into Dairy Mart in January, seriously injuring a teenager, has been indicted on assault and other charges.
Barbara Jean Allen, 60, of 1394 Red Hill Road, was indicted by a Casey County grand jury Monday on charges of DUI, second-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and 20 counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or false statement.

Fair welcomes 1,200 people on first night

The 2007 Casey County Fair is in full swing with contests, pageants and shows as well as good food, music and entertainment.
The festivities will get started tonight with the petting zoo at 5 p.m. The carnival opens tonight (Wednesday) at 6, and the large, small and mini-car demolition derby kicks off at 7 p.m. The Coca-Cola Talent Contest will begin at 7 p.m. as well.

 


Residents urged to conserve water

Although a few spotty showers have helped settle the dust, many Casey Countians are still experiencing water shortages.
Andy Greynolds, manager of the East Casey County Water District, said on Monday that the county is still in "bad shape."
"We're keeping up barely with the demand and we're still running out (of water) late in the afternoon," he said.

takes the menu approach

Funds administered under new rules

The Casey County Agricultural Development Council agreed to use a new menu approach to administering funding for 11 model programs.
Farmers could be able to sign up for the funding as early as mid-July, but under new rules.
The new menu approach, approved at the council's May 29 meeting, will use a new scoring sheet to determine eligibility for cost-share funding of the Phase I tobacco money.


Brick removal begins at Jones Park

The removal of the defective brick on Jones Park Elementary School began last week by crews with D.W. Wilburn, Inc., the general contractor on the project.
The work removing the brick began on Tuesday, just after Memorial Day, and started in front near the entrance of the school. The crew will work its way counterclockwise around the building this summer.


Two plead guilty to burglary and

theft; nine others sentenced

Two men pleaded guilty to robbery in Casey Circuit Court May 21, following a break-in at a Casey County residence last month.
Derek S. Falconbury, 18, of 95 South KY 837, Bethelridge, and William Gastineau Jr., 33, of 277 Howe Hollow Road, Middleburg, each pleaded guilty to burglary and theft charges in connection with the April 3 break-in at Ron Hatter's residence. The two allegedly stole two handguns, pocket knives, some controlled substances and other items.
