School district, general contractor file
lawsuit over Jones Park bricks

Following a nearly year-long issue with defective brick on Jones Park Elementary School, the contractor who built the new school and the Casey County Board of Education have filed a lawsuit in Casey Circuit Court against the three companies they say are responsible for the brick.
D.W. Wilburn, Inc. and the school board filed the complaint against Carmicle Masonry, LLC of Dunnville, Clay-Ingels Co., LLC of Lexington and Carolina Ceramics, LLC of South Carolina.
KY 70 project hits snag
State files second condemnation suit

The state Transportation Cabinet Department of Highways has filed a second condemnation suit, seeking property that is needed for the construction of a new portion of KY 70 West.
Keith Upchurch, counsel for the Transportation Cabinet's Somerset office, filed the legal action April 27 in Casey Circuit Court. The state is seeking the condemnation of 2.42 acres on U.S. 127 South at Shugars Hill Road, which is owned by Jennifer Shugars of 1457 Wallace Wilkinson Boulevard, Liberty.
Walters resigns as head boys' basketball coach at CCHS

Casey boys' head basketball coach Perry Walters resigned Friday after three years at the helm of the program.
Walters compiled a 25-58 record overall including a 10-19 mark during the 2006-07 season.
"With my upcoming wedding in June, my life is about to go in a different direction," Walters said. "I would love to stay and continue what we started, but there are too many off-court obstacles."
Magistrates asked to take stand
on hospital helipad issue

Magistrates were put on the spot Monday night when Liberty resident Richard Montgomery asked them to go on record voicing their approval or opposition to a helipad that is part of the new Casey County Hospital construction.
However, magistrates would do neither, saying they needed time to absorb what Montgomery spelled out to them in an open letter to Casey County Fiscal Court.
Students injured in Lincoln wreck

Four people were seriously injured in a two-car accident Monday morning in Lincoln County, including two Casey County students.
According to Trooper Michael Ashley, Matthew Burns, 18, of Gravel Switch, was southbound on U.S. 127 near the Casey-Lincoln county line around 8 a.m. when his 1999 Chevy pickup hit a 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by Jana Maples, 31, of Stanford.
High School Rodeo is Saturday
at Central Kentucky AG/EXPO Center

A sea of cowboy hats will once again fill the Central Kentucky AG/EXPO Center as Casey County will host the High School Rodeo Challenge for the second year in a row on Saturday.
The event will welcome about 200 contestants from five states, said Todd Hoskins, the Casey County Fair Board member who is in charge of the event. The fair board is sponsoring the annual competition.
