Newlywed Natasha (Turpin) Preston never considered herself a guardian angel. But she got to play that role last week when she helped save a man's life.
Preston, a junior at Casey County High School, said she usually goes home after school, but decided to stop last Wednesday to see her grandmother, who lives in Liberty Manor Apartments. As she drove into the apartment complex, something caught her eye.

Office Street to go for hospital construction

Liberty City Council once again addressed concerns regarding the construction of the new Casey County Hospital on Wednesday when the hospital board requested the permanent closure of Office Street.
The request was made in a letter from Rusty Tungate, administrator and CEO of the hospital.
The Casey County Hospital Board made the request as construction on the new facility is nearly ready to begin.
Grand jury issues sealed indictments
7 charged with drug offenses

Seven people have been named in sealed indictments that were handed down by a Casey County grand jury April 19. The indictments were unsealed on Monday and all involve drug offenses.
• Jamie C. Bryant, 28, of 8033 West KY 70, is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance first degree (cocaine) on June 16, 2006; and trafficking in a controlled substance second degree (hydrocodone) on June 20, 2006.
Prescription drug card now available at
Casey County Health Department
Card may save some people 20 percent on medications

A new discount card for prescription drugs could give some Casey Countians an average of 20 percent off of their medications.
The card, which made its way to Casey County earlier this year, is an initiative of Casey County government as well as the National Association of Counties. The card assists residents on prescriptions that are not covered by insurance, Judge-Executive Ronald Wright said.
Lowest city sewer bid comes in at $1.4 million

City residents along KY 70 East and U.S. 127 South are a step closer to getting sewer services as bids were opened Friday on the $3.5 million project.
Representatives from six firms were on hand at City Hall to witness the bids, which ranged from $1.4 million to $3.1 million. Submitting the low bid was Weddle Enterprising Inc. of Somerset.
"If the low bidder is still willing to proceed, that's who we'll use," Mayor Steve Sweeney said on Monday.
