Teen indicted for manslaughter

Boy originally charged with murder in

connection with cousin's death

A teenager originally charged with murder in the death of his cousin has been indicted on first-degree manslaughter charges.
Joe C. Yates, 16, of 901 Carman Creek Road, Kings Mountain, was indicted Monday by a Casey County grand jury. According to the indictment, Yates caused the death of William Joshua Williams on April 18 by striking him in the head.

Woman injured in pallet mill accident

A Liberty woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries on Friday after being hurt while working at a local pallet mill.
Neli Terrones, 37, an employee at Barron Pallets Inc. on KY 1552, was loading boards into a rip saw machine at about 7:30 a.m. when her ponytail was pulled into a machine with rollers, Supervisor Gary Stafford said.


Principal interviews under way

Interviews for a new Casey County High School principal are under way, with the new principal expected to be named on Monday.
Rachel Taylor, a teacher and member of the CCHS site-based decision making council, said seven people had applied for the position as of the May 9 deadline. Of those, however, only four are being considered.


Helipad opposition continues

The controversy surrounding the new Casey County Hospital helipad was discussed once again by the Liberty City Council last week.
County Surveyor Richard Montgomery, who has been in faithful opposition of the helipad's proposed location at the site of the new hospital, asked each council member to make their stances clear on the helipad and its consequences on the city.


10th Annual Event

Community readies for Relay for Life

Casey County's 10th Relay for Life gets under way Friday evening and those planning to attend can expect a night in the tropics.
Grass skirts and beach hats will be the order of dress as this year's Relay for Life theme is "Aloha to Cancer."
Activities get under way at 5:30 p.m. at the Pork Producers Building at the Central Kentucky AG/EXPO Center, where the cancer survivors' reception will be held. Registration begins at 5 p.m.


State races featured in Tuesday's primary

Although little has been said locally, there is an election coming up next week - and it could be a costly one.
Casey County voters will go to the polls on Tuesday for the primary election to help decide the nominees for five state offices this fall, as well as a judicial candidate to the state Court of Appeals.


High School Rodeo

The Central Kentucky AG/EXPO Center hosted the High School Rodeo Challenge for teens in five states on Saturday night. Todd Hoskins of the Casey County Fair Board, which organized the event, said more than 1,000 people attended.
