Tornado leaves 13-mile swath

A tornado cut an 13-mile swath of damage through southern Casey County
Tuesday night, leaving some homes uninhabitable and victims wondering how they'll ever clean up the mess.
Joe Sullivan and Mark Jarvis, with the National Weather Service office in Louisville, were in Casey County the next day, touring the area with Rick Wesley, Casey's Disaster and Emergency Services coordinator.

Woman dies in motorcycle crash

Bobby Summers doesn't remember a whole lot about the accident that seriously injured him and cost a young woman her life last week.
"All I really remember is turning around at the church," he said. "I do remember seeing some loose gravel in the road. I may have hit it."

Jail to end fiscal year with more than $500,000

The Casey County Detention Center is going to finish the fiscal year with more than a half-million dollars.
Jailer Tommy Miller presented his 2007-08 budget to the Casey County Fiscal Court on Monday night. The $3.7 million budget is up by $300,000 over the current budget of $3.4 million.
"We're going to run in the black again this year, somewhere around $573,000," Miller told magistrates.

Republicans seeking four state offices speak to crowd

Politicians and voters from Casey and many of its surrounding counties came together Saturday night to support the Republican Party and to hear what its candidates had to say.
The 2007 Lincoln Day Dinner, hosted by the Casey County Young Republican Federation, was held at the Pork Producers Building at the Central Kentucky AG/EXPO Center. Casey County High School's Y-Club members worked as servers and greeters for the event.
