Teen charged with murder in death of cousin

Editor's Note: The name of the 16-year-old boy charged with murder is not being used because he is a juvenile. The boy's mother, who is the source for much of this story, also is not being named so as not to identify the teen.

Property bought for permanent Casey SCC site

Construction on new facility at least 1 1/2 to 2 years away

A permanent location for the Casey County campus of Somerset Community College has been secured.
Liberty Mayor Steve Sweeney said on Friday that the Liberty/Casey County Economic Develop-ment Association, along with the city and county governments, had closed the deal that day on two acres in the downtown area that will house the local college.


Tenured employees expected to
keep jobs when Walnut Hill opens

Staffing for the 2007-08 school year will mostly be handled as usual, even with the consolidation of three elementary schools, Superin-tendent Linda Hatter said.
Even though Douglas, Phelps and Phillips elementaries will join to form Walnut Hill Elementary in August, Hatter said she expects that staffing the new school will follow the same system as in previous years.


Dial becomes seventh officer for LPD

The Liberty Police Department has picked up its seventh officer as Randy Dial joined the force on April 7.
Dial, 39, is the city's fifth full-time officer. He is currently working split shifts as he also retains his job as a real estate salesman for United Country, where he has worked the last five years, as well as working with Tarter-Roberts Insurance Agency.


Grand jury indicts man on 12 counts

A Hustonville man who allegedly injured and unlawfully restrained two people, and then fired a gun at law enforcement officials, was named in 12 indictments handed down by a Casey County grand jury on Thursday.
Clark Slone Jr., 48, of 7620 KY 78, was indicted on charges of first-degree wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, menacing, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, unlawful imprisonment first degree, second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, and four counts of being a persisent felony offender, second degree.
