
Ground broken for new hospital

With sparkling new shovels reflecting the gleam of welcome sunshine on a mild spring afternoon, members of the Casey County Hospital's board of trustees and other dignitaries dug into the earth and tossed ceremonial scoops of dirt as the official groundbreaking was held April 10 for a new hospital.
"We're very excited about this new hospital and hope it will provide good health care for our residents," Chairman Lonnie Mullins told the estimated 250 people who gathered for the event.

Residents pack board room to oppose helipad

It was standing room only at the Casey County Hospital board meeting last week as 10 residents from the local neighborhood packed the tiny meeting room to voice their concerns about a helipad that is part of the new hospital construction.
In short, the residents don't want the helipad in their neighborhood, and they particularly don't want it in the location that is being proposed by the planners.

The Casey County Hospital Board may have hit a snag in its plans for building a new hospital.
Chairman Lonnie Mullins received a certified letter on Friday from Liberty Mayor Steve Sweeney, informing the board that a street they thought would be closed may not be.
Administrator Rusty Tungate said he had a letter from Sweeney, dated July 2006, saying there would be no problem in closing Office Street.
Some upset over principal selection

Parents of students from two of the three schools that will consolidate to form Walnut Hill Elementary this fall attended the Casey County Board of Education's Monday night meeting to air their concerns about the principal chosen to lead the new school.
Tim Goodlett, principal at Casey County High, was chosen nearly two weeks ago to take the helm at the new school, with Douglas Elementary's principal Judy Phillips in the assistant principal position.
