By Linda Carmicle

The City of Liberty is only days away from getting tough about its nuisance law that will leave those who are not in compliance with having tough choices to make.
Mayor Steve Sweeney asked the city council on Wednesday to consider condemnation of certain properties whose owners have been given adequate opportunity to abide by the city's nuisance ordinance. He said several of the properties have been in violation of the ordinance for a number of years, along with the owners having not paid taxes on the properties in question.

Ideas for scoresheets were debated by those attending a meeting of the Casey County Agricultural Development Council Aug. 8. And not everyone went away happy.
After a couple of hours of discussion, the council had hammered out the framework for a points scoring system that will be used to determine eligibility in the cost-share model programs. The council is scheduled to meet again at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Casey County Extension Office to determine a final scoresheet, and also possibly discuss the distribution of Casey's $472,000 allocated for cost-share programs this year.

Cut-off date for free

water meters is Sept. 30

By Linda Carmicle
Staff Writer

A deadline has been set for families living along 15 roads in the county to apply for a free water meter before the next water project begins.
East Casey County Water District board members agreed in an Aug. 8 meeting to establish Sept. 30 as the final day that low income families can apply for a free meter for the upcoming Scattered Water Project. The board believes the more than six weeks allowed to apply for treated water service is adequate time. After the deadline passes, families who qualify for free meters will have to pay to have one installed.
