Atwood paid $46,000 in UK settlement

4-H agent agrees to resign position

The University of Kentucky paid Jan Atwood $46,000 and asked for her resignation as 4-H agent with the Casey County Extension District.
That information was contained in a settlement agreement between Atwood and UK, which was released Friday by UK after The Casey County News filed an open records request.
The news of the settlement between Atwood and UK was announced two weeks ago; however, officials declined to release the terms of the agreement, citing a confidentiality clause that was agreed upon by both parties. The newspaper challenged the confidentiality agreement, citing the

Casey Hospital donates houses

to H.O.M.E. Coalition

An offer that seems too good to be true recently came to an organization that has struggled for years to provide for the community.
Casey County Community Ministries recently learned that seven houses are being offered to the organization by the Casey County Hospital. The property that the homes sit on will be used for construction of a new hospital. The houses are being donated to the organization's H.O.M.E. (Home Ownership Made Easier) Coalition program.

$1.2M jail addition soon to house more inmates

A project that the county went out on a financial limb to build last July will soon be generating money.
Judge-Executive Ronald Wright said at Monday night's fiscal court meeting that the new addition to the Casey County Detention Center is expected to open for inmates next week.
As of Tuesday morning state inspectors had arrived at the new construction site to inspect the facility. Wright said the inspectors will make sure the jail meets all specifications, such as a working sprinkler system, smoke evacuation system, electrical and other functional parts.

Proposals made to build new hospital

The Casey County Hospital's Board of Directors was scheduled to sit in on bid proposals yesterday from three firms who are wanting to build a new Casey County Hospital.
Administrator Rusty Tungate told the board at its July 11 meeting that representatives from Parsons-META, the management firm hired for the project, were scheduled to be at the local hospital on July 18 to evaluate proposals.
Tungate said eight requests for proposals were sent out to firms, but Parsons-META will select only three to interview. No decisions will be made that day on who to hire, he added.
