Interaction with other drugs may have contributed to deaths

Toxicology results on four of five people who recently died in Casey County of suspected drug overdoses have named the drug methadone as the common drug found in each victim.
Trooper Dwaine Barnett, public affairs officer for the Kentucky State Police Post 15 in Columbia, said on Monday that toxicology tests were released Friday by the state medical examiner's office.

Wreck injures two
A one-vehicle accident Friday in southeastern Casey County has left two people seriously injured.
According to Sheriff's Deputy Bob Weddle, the 3:25 p.m. accident occurred on KY 837 near Poplar Springs Road. He said the driver of a 2001 Ford, Pam Daniels, 24, of Russell Springs, and her passenger, Charlie Richards, 38, of Bethelridge, were trapped inside the vehicle.

Jury pay hasn't changed in 40 years

There aren't too many people who can escape a service that keeps the wheels of justice turning.
It is a draw of luck – some may consider bad luck – to be called for jury duty, especially since it pays so little.
It has been 40 years since pay for Kentucky jurors was increased from $5 a day to $12.50 a day, as it stands now.
Drug testing policy gets first reading

Random drug testing is coming to Casey County High School as the district's drug-testing policy was given its first reading at the school board's March 13 meeting.
CCHS Principal Tim Goodlett, whose school hosted the meeting, said he had been to a summit on Feb. 28 regarding drug testing, and was recommended to conduct a survey before the testing began.
