Man killed when car runs stop sign at intersection
A Liberty man is dead following a two-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday morning at the "Y" in the Creston community.
According to a report by Trooper Mike Woodrum, George "Georgie" Clements, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 11:30 a.m. accident by Casey County Coroner Tommy Clark. Deputy Coroner Betty Bartle Clark said Clements died from multiple blunt force injuries.
The accident report stated that Darrell Barnett, 46, of Russell Springs, was operating a 1989 GMC pickup truck north on KY 206 when he failed to stop at a stop sign before merging into eastbound traffic on KY 70. Woodrum stated that Barnett drove into the path of a 1993 Oldsmobile driven by Clements. The vehicles collided head-on.
Barnett was taken to the Casey County Hospital where he was treated and released.
Also assisting at the scene were the Casey County Sheriff's Office, EMS, Rescue, and personnel with the Department of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.
Woodrum noted that neither of the drivers were wearing a seatbelt.
No charges have been filed against Barnett, but the accident continues to be under investigation.

Ballot is set for May Primary

Following the Jan. 31 filing deadline, 71 candidates filed for public office to represent the interests of Casey Countians. However, only 68 of those will be featured on the May 16 Primary Election ballot.
That's because the races for Liberty Mayor and City Council, which are non-partisan, will not be included. Candidates in those races do not have to declare their intentions until Aug. 8.
Likewise, those wishing to seek a seat on the Casey County Board of Education in Districts 2 and 3, may file now but are not required to until August.
