Man tries to rob A&D at knifepoint

Clerks thwart would-be robber

Nancy Shoopman and Sandra Bowlin could be robbery statistics today. But instead, police say they did everything right in preventing a robbery at A&D Supermarket Friday evening.
The two women were locking up around 6 p.m. when a man armed with a knife demanded money. But instead of getting cash, he was forced to flee with nothing as the women were able to get the store's sliding glass doors closed and locked,

and then alerted police.

'That's all I want...just to get home'

A buzzer sounded and the hangar doors slowly began to open. The hundreds of people waiting impatiently inside rushed toward the widening space between the doors in time to see a plane roll to a stop on the tarmac.
A few minutes past its scheduled arrival time, the plane was eagerly anticipated by hundreds of families on Saturday morning at the Kentucky Air National Guard base in Louisville.

Filing deadlines less than a week away

With the filing deadline less than a week away now, two more people have declared their intentions to seek public office.
The latest filings include Kenny Reed, 45, of 3191 Patsy Riffe Road, Middleburg, who is seeking the Republican nomination for Constable of District 3. He filed his intentions Monday in County Clerk Eva Miller's office.

Not guilty plea entered in teen's death


A Yosemite man charged with reckless homicide in the death of a teenager last summer entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment Monday in Casey Circuit Court.
Derrick Scott Hamilton, 24, stood quietly with his attorney, Ted Lavit of Lebanon, as the not guilty plea was entered. Hamilton is charged with causing the death of Venessa Kemarly, 14, who allegedly rode her bicycle onto KY 837 into the path of Hamilton's vehicle on Aug. 20, 2005.
