Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier in 1947 when he became the first black man to play Major League Baseball. Robinson spent his first season with the Brooklyn Dodgers ignoring racial slurs and living with physical threats. Baseball honored Robinson posthumously on the 50th anniversary of his first game by retiring the use of his number 42 for all MLB teams.

Former Rebels turn dream of coaching at home into reality

Novelist and folklorist Carl Sandburg once said, "Nothing happens unless first a dream."
A dream came first for a couple of 1987 Casey High graduates and yet nothing happened for nearly 20 years.
Rebel head football coach Andy Stephens and his basketball counterpart Todd Carman, who have been good friends all the way back to their Middleburg Elementary days, developed a plan during their high school days.
"We always talked about Todd coaching the basketball team and me being the football coach," recalled Stephens. “I thought it was pretty neat how it worked out.”

Local coaches have better grasp of program

Most of the Casey sports programs are blessed with former Rebel players as coaches and assistants. Of the 14 different sports programs at Casey High, there are at least 17 former Rebel (and one Liberty Wildcat) athletes serving as coaches and assistant coaches.
Say what you will about this situation, but there is no doubt in my mind that we should be thankful to have these individuals.
