  • 2011 GYE winners announced

    This year’s Growing Young Entrepreneurs competition was held on Sept. 15 at the Kentucky Tech Casey County ATC.
    Students who were interested in starting their own business wrote a business plan and made a presentation to several local business leaders and educators.
    Winners in the GYE presentation are Ryan Martin, first; Ali Thompson, second; and Logan Hooten, third.
    Martin was awarded $500, a laptop, and a mentoring from a Kentucky Entrepreneurial Coaches Institute (KECI) coach.

  • 61 participate in 2011 Apple Festival Spelling Bee

    Sixty-one students participated in the annual Apple Festival Spelling Bee. Schools represented were Galilean Christian School, Jones Park Elementary, Liberty Elementary and Walnut Hill Elementary. . A student qualified by winning a competition in the homeroom or language arts classes of his or her school. Some qualified as alternates when room winners could not compete.

  • School board approves hiring soccer coaches

    Casey County Middle School students are going to have an opportunity to compete in a sport that is played mostly outside the U.S. but is rapidly gaining popularity here at home.
    The Casey County Board of Education approved a motion Sept. 12 to hire two coaches for a boys’ and girls’ soccer team.
    CCMS Assistant Principal Jeff Emerson, who made the presentation to the board, said that during the open houses in August at each elementary school and at the middle school, parents and students were asked to express their interest in a soccer program.
