  • Walnut Hill Winner's Circle

    Walnut Hill Elementary has named its Thoroughbred Traits Winner’s Circle students for January.
    They include Kenan Knifely, Ally Phelps, Connor Barnett, Jordan Watson, Gabby Vaughn, Morgan Smith, Sean Propes, Hailey Terry, Ansley Brown, Devan Polston, Hannah Malone, Jordan Mitchell, Will Thompson, Brea Howard, Monica Wells, Dylan Price, Brianna Perez, Nicholas Roy, Alyonah Kidd, Nathaniel Terry, Gabby Johnson, Gracie Wilson and Daniel Moore.

  • Eaves wins district essay contest

    Kembree Eaves, a fifth-grader at Jones Park Elementary, was the winner of the Middle Cumberland District AARP’s “Grandparent of the Year” essay writing contest.
    Kembree was also the county winner, and her essay advanced to compete with other students in the district comprised of Casey, Adair, Russell, Wayne, Pulaski and McCreary counties. She also received a $50 savings bond from AARP as the district winner.
    Her essay will now be entered in the state level competition, with the winner announced in April.

  • Casey joins in celebration of National FFA Week

    National FFA Week, celebrated Feb. 19-26, was an opportunity for FFA members from across the nation to share their enthusiasm and love for agriculture and its future.
    The Casey County chapter participated in many activities during the week including a daily theme ranging from boot day to official dress.
    Thursday and Friday were pork burger cookout days for FFA members and high school staff and community supporters.

  • ‘Read Across America’

    There was a whole lot of readin’ goin’ on Wednesday morning, as Casey County students joined with others across the country to celebrate “Read Across America” day, a tribute to beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss’, birthday.
    Sponsored by the National Education Association every March 2, the event encourages schools to get their young people excited about reading.
    According to Tammy Spears, library media specialist at Liberty Elementary, Liberty, Jones Park and Walnut Hill all participated in various motivational activities.

  • Eaves wins 'Grandparent of the Year' essay contest

    Kembree Eaves, a fifth-grader at Jones Park Elementary, and the daughter of Justin and Rebecca Eaves, is this year’s winner of Casey County’s Grandparent of the Year essay contest.
    Kembree received a check for $25 from the Casey County Retired Teachers Association. She, along with her grandfather, Cleophas Slone, her father, Justin Eaves, and her teacher, Ginger Emerson, were lunch guests of the Retired Teachers Association at their February meeting.
