  • Edward Brackett, 87

    Edward Burr Brackett of Liberty died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 at the Liberty Care Center. He was 87.

    Born on Dec. 13, 1924, he was a son of the late Speed Farmer and Sally Baldock Brackett. He was the widower of Juanita Matthews Brackett and Mary Propes Brackett.

    He was a retired gate salesman, attended Bruce’s Chapel United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

  • Glenn W. Johnson, 69

    Glenn W. Johnson of Indiana died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the Gibson General Hospital in Princeton, Ind. He was 69.

    Born in Casey County on Sept. 19, 1938, he was a son of the late William and Vera Stafford Johnson.

    Survivors include two sisters, Pauline (and Coy) Rigney and Bessie Louise Johnson, both of Liberty; a brother, Edgar Lewis Johnson of Liberty; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Marie Griffin.

    Graveside services were held Aug. 7 at the Columbia White Church Cemetery by Rev. Larry Meadows.

  • Ready for the Move

    The new Casey County Hospital is expected to be up and running by this time next week as the facility passed its final inspection on Monday.

    “We have a few more things to do to the patient rooms, and then we’re ready,” said Administrator Rusty Tungate, adding the hospital now expects to transfer its patients to the new building next Tuesday.

    Tungate had reported following the hospital board’s Aug. 12 meeting that he anticipated the new hospital would open the last week of September. However, it now appears the district will beat that date.

  • Curtis Murphy, 78

    Curtis Murphy of Liberty died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 at Fayette County. He was 78.

    Born in Casey County on Jan. 10, 1930, he was a son of the late Thomas Walter and Ona Campbell Murphy.

    He was a retired orderly at the Casey County Hospital and a member of Gum Lick Christian Church.

  • Pauline Salyers, 83

    Pauline Salyers of Yosemite died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was 83.

    Born in Casey County on Dec. 13, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Lonzo and Pearl Byrd Watson. She was the widow of Earl Fritz Salyers.

    She was a housewife and member of First Baptist Church of Yosemite.

  • Mary F. Gibson, 90

    Mary Frances Gibson of Liberty died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at the Liberty Care Center. She was 90.

    Born on June 20, 1918 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Butler Daniel and Viola Frances Hedges Phillips. She was the widow of Earl Gibson.

    She was a seamstress and former employee of Cricketeer Manufacturing Company and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.

  • Adrian Harrison, 80

    Adrian Harrison of Liberty died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. He was 80.

    Born on Sept. 15, 1927 in Casey County, he was a son of the late Elbridge and Pearl Murphy Harrison.

    He was a retired mason, member of the Gum Lick Christian Church and attended the Atwood Chapel Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
