The Casey County Produce Auction’s annual spring consignment sale begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the South Fork Creek Road location.
The auction will feature a variety of farm-related and household goods, poultry, small animals and nursery plants, and many other items. All farm equipment and personal property (except guns) will be accepted starting today (Wednesday) until sale time.
Throughout the regular auction season, which begins April 6, anyone — including the Mennonite and Amish communities, as well as the general public — can bring their farm goods to auction to sell or buy.
Now in its third year, the auction continues to expand and has located to its permanent building across from Misty Mountain Sales on South Fork Creek Road.
“We are trying to make (the auction) a community thing for all local people — not just Mennonites — where anyone can come and buy, or sell, according to auction terms,” manager Milton Brubacker said.
Produce auctions are regular features in Mennonite and Amish communities, and there are a few others in Kentucky that operate as clearinghouses for local growers. This is the closest one to the Lexington region.
