Monitoring a police scanner is part of my job, 24/7. Whether it goes off in the middle of a work day, at 3 a.m., or on the weekend, makes no difference.
This time, it was the middle of a work day, 3:05 p.m. last Wednesday. The call was a house fire on C. Wesley Road. From years of experience, I knew this could mean an actual structure fire, something small that could be brought quickly under control, or even a controlled burn.
