61 participate in 2011 Apple Festival Spelling Bee

Sixty-one students participated in the annual Apple Festival Spelling Bee. Schools represented were Galilean Christian School, Jones Park Elementary, Liberty Elementary and Walnut Hill Elementary. . A student qualified by winning a competition in the homeroom or language arts classes of his or her school. Some qualified as alternates when room winners could not compete.  
The competition was held at the Central Kentucky Ag/Expo center pork producers building and was conducted by the Casey County Retired Teachers Association. Awards were provided by the Apple Festival committee and Liberty Electronics and Laser gifts.  
The following is a list of the participants and awards presented for each grade:
First grade — First, Karis Cundiff, Liberty Elementary; second, Laci Baldwin, Liberty Elementary; and third, Abby Vaughn, Walnut Hill.
Other first-grade class winners included Gaeda Gertler, Galilean School; Kassidy Piercy, Jones Park; Kyndra Turpin, Jones Park; William Frazier, Walnut Hill.
Second grade — First, Gabby Hatfield, Walnut Hill; second, Grant King, Liberty Elementary; and third, Ethan Willoughby, Galilean School.
Other second-grade class winners were Natalie Pierce, Jones Park; Ashley McDaniel, Liberty Elementary; Hannah Malone, Walnut Hill; and Brayden Wethington, Walnut Hill.
Third grade — First, Jaden Atherton, Galilean School; second, Allison Cochran, Jones Park; and third, Morgan Crowe, Liberty Elementary.
Other third-grade class winners were Levi Reed, Jones Park; Detiny Richardson, Jones Park; Madison Serouse, Liberty Elementary; Thomas Gossage, Walnut Hill; John Dickerson, Walnut Hill; and Anna Danglemaier, Walnut Hill.
Fourth grade — First, Gracie Johnson, Liberty Elementary; second, Walker Campbell, Walnut Hill; and  third, Cailynn Floyd, Jones Park.
Other fourth-grade class winners were Tanner Stonecypher, Galilean School; Maggie Luttrell, Jones Park; Shelby Dalton, Jones Park; Maggie Rodgers, Liberty Elementary; and Junior Peavey, Walnut Hill.
Fifth grade — First, Shayla Brown, Jones Park; second, Zachary Carman, Jones Park; and third, Nate Ratliff, Liberty Elementary.
Other fifth-grade class winners were Brooklynn Harpin, Galilean School; Chloe Smith, Jones Park; Hailee Byrd, Liberty Elementary; Pheleisha Leedom, Walnut Hill; Haley West, Walnut Hill; and Lydia Franco, Walnut Hill.
Sixth grade — First, Brookley Davis, Galilean School; second, Sydney Emerson, Liberty Elementary; and third, Presley Woodrum, Walnut Hill.
Other sixth-grade class winners were Travis Wilson, Jones Park; Hailey Franklin, Jones Park; Kembree Eaves, Jones Park; Alyx Streeval, Liberty Elementary; Brea Howard, Walnut Hill; and Sherridan Bell, Walnut Hill.
Seventh grade — First, Dakota Selch, Casey Middle; second, Cameron Alexander, Galilean School; and third, Holly Christian, Casey Middle.
Other seventh-grade class winners were Hannah Humphrey, Casey Middle; Taylof Brown, Casey Middle; Colton Patterson, Casey Middle; and Payton Atwood, Casey Middle.
Eighth grade — First, Michaela Stonecyher, Galilean School; second, Abby Raines, Casey Middle; and third, Shelbie Salyers, Casey Middle.
The other eighth-grade class winner was Jessica Rowe, Casey Middle.
