Fiscal court opposes library's '07 tax rate

Casey County Fiscal Court isn't happy with the tax rate the Casey County Public Library plans to levy for the coming tax year.
"I'd like the county attorney to write a letter to the library board saying we're in opposition to the 4 percent rate and we want them to use a lower rate," Magistrate David Phelps said at Monday's fiscal court meeting.

Casey native comes home to practice

In middle school, Cassie Floyd was faced with the inevitable question: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Floyd thought she'd be a nurse.
"I had an aunt who was a nurse, and I always loved going to the doctor when I was little,' she said. "But as time went on, I thought, 'Why not be a doctor? Yeah, I can do that.' And it was always family practice."


Three of five accidents occur on

U.S. 127 over weekend

Five car accidents sent seven Casey County motorists to the hospital late last week.
The first occurred on Thursday about 5 p.m. on Contown Ridge Road when Ray Martin, 78, of 1343 Strong Branch Road, lost control of a 2000 Toyota pickup as he was going around a curve while traveling south.


Berry faces 15 years on burglary charges

A Casey County man has pleaded guilty to burglary and theft charges and could face a possible 15-year sentence.
Douglas J. Berry, 45, of 1411 Strong Branch Road, pleaded guilty July 23 in Casey Circuit Court in connection with the January 2007 incident.
According to court records, Berry is charged with both first- and third-degree burglary after he allegedly broke into, or remained unlawfully in, residences owned by Ray Martin.


Casey grand jury returns indictments against two


A Eubank man was indicted on three counts Tuesday by a Casey County grand jury, while they also issued one indictment against another person.
Larry Joe Brent II, 27, of 5270 Ky. 328, Eubank, was indicted on charges of his fourth or subsequent offense of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants, operating on a revoked or suspended license, and failure to produce an insurance card.
