By Donna Carman

Helen Rowland was sound asleep when her daughter ran into her home, screaming for her mother to wake up.
"She said, 'Mommy, wake up! Larry's trailer's blowed up,'" recalled Mrs. Rowland on Monday morning as she looked over the burned remains of her son's mobile home, sitting about 200 feet from her own home.

Casey gets $4.1M in state budget

By Donna Carman
Editor

Casey County has come away with five projects totaling $4.1 million in the two-year $18 billion state budget passed last week by legislators.
Sen. Vernie McGaha (R-Russell Springs) and Rep. Jimmy Higdon (R-Lebanon), who both represent Casey County, were at the courthouse in Liberty Thursday morning to share items that were included in the state budget.
"We have a lot of good things for our state," McGaha said. "Casey County has fared sumptuously at the plate."

Officer shoots rabid dog

By Linda Carmicle
Staff Writer

A stray dog that was thought to have had rabies was shot and killed Sunday evening on Foster Street in Liberty.
Liberty Police Officer Steven Garrett said he was called to Foster Street early Sunday evening on a complaint about a stray dog that was possibly mad. When he and and Deputy Sheriff Freeman Luttrell arrived, they observed a medium-sized brown dog going in circles and foaming at the mouth. He fired one shot, which put the dog down, he said. He said the dog acted as though it "was out of its mind."
